While the IB Diploma Programme has not yet started, we are excited to announce that we intend to launch the programme in September 2026. Our goal is to provide an academically rigorous and personally transformative experience for all students who join the programme.

What is the IB Diploma?

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme was founded in 1968 and has since become one of the most respected academic qualifications worldwide. With over 500,000 graduates globally, the IB Diploma provides students with a comprehensive, challenging, and highly regarded education that develops both academic and personal growth.

The IB Diploma is designed to ensure that students do not view subjects in isolation but instead understand the interconnections between different disciplines. This interconnected approach is at the core of the curriculum and enables students to see the relevance of their learning in the real world.

The IB Learner Profile

The IB Programme is not only about academic success but also about personal development. The IB Learner Profile outlines ten attributes that the IB seeks to cultivate in every student. These qualities are integrated into all aspects of the curriculum, helping students to become:

  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Risk-takers
  • Balanced
  • Reflective

At Wembley High Technology College, we ensure that these qualities are developed both inside and outside the classroom, empowering students to grow into well-rounded global citizens. A link to the Learner Profile is here: ib-lp-colour-sk-6.

The Core Elements of the IB Diploma

The IB Diploma Programme includes three core elements that set it apart from other qualifications:

  1. Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS):
This is an integral part of the IB experience, encouraging students to engage in a variety of extracurricular activities that promote creativity, physical activity, and community service. Through CAS, students learn to live the IB Learner Profile and develop personal and interpersonal skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
  2. The Extended Essay (EE):
The Extended Essay is an independent, research-based project that allows students to explore a topic of their choice in great depth. Students will develop skills in writing, critical thinking, and academic research, providing them with valuable experience for university-level work.
  3. Theory of Knowledge (TOK):
TOK is a course that encourages students to reflect on the nature of knowledge, how we acquire it, and how we interpret the world around us. TOK fosters critical thinking and helps students articulate their views and question established knowledge, preparing them to become thoughtful, independent thinkers.

A Truly Global Perspective

At Wembley High, we place a strong emphasis on the international aspect of the IB Diploma. Students will be part of a global network that stretches far beyond the classroom. Whether through academic subjects or the Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) programme, our students will develop a deep understanding of the key issues facing our world today. This awareness, combined with the critical thinking skills fostered through the IB, ensures that our students will be prepared to tackle global challenges and make a meaningful impact.

Our commitment to nurturing this global perspective will be reflected in every aspect of the IB experience at Wembley High. The diverse range of subjects, along with our focus on community engagement and personal development, will enable students to grow as well-rounded individuals with a genuine understanding of their role in the world.

A Supportive and Stimulating Environment

We believe that success in the IB requires not only an excellent academic curriculum but also a strong support system. At Wembley High, our small class sizes will allow for personalized attention and tailored support, ensuring that each student can reach their full potential. In addition, our highly trained IB teachers will be dedicated to guiding students through their studies, offering the expertise and encouragement they need to succeed.

Our excellent pastoral care, combined with the academic rigor of the IB, will create an environment where students are both challenged and supported. This holistic approach will ensure that students are not only academically prepared but also emotionally and personally ready to take on the challenges of the future.

Pathways to Success

Our students will be equipped to achieve outstanding results and pursue their dreams after graduation. Many of our IB graduates will go on to study at top universities, including those in the prestigious Russell Group, such as Oxford and Cambridge. The IB’s emphasis on academic excellence, critical thinking, and independent learning will make our graduates highly sought after by universities across the UK and beyond.

Additionally, some of our students may choose to take their love for international education further, studying abroad and embracing opportunities for global learning and development. Whether in the UK or internationally, the skills gained through the IB will prepare our students for success in their chosen path, whether that be at university, in the workplace, or in further vocational studies.
